English Chanting Service
Every Sunday, 9 – 9:40am
English Buddhist Chanting Service is held every Sunday morning at 9:00am in the Bodhisattva Hall. Homage is paid to the Buddha with the Ode to the Triple Gem and an incense offering, followed by chanting the Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra. This Sutra could be said to cover the essence of Buddhism and is one of the most well-known Sutras. We then chant the Dharani of Great Compassion. This Mantra is able to help relieve our suffering and save us from distress. A Meditation period commences with walking meditation chanting the Buddha’s Name followed by a short seated silent meditation. We recite the Morning Prayer by Venerable Master Hsing Yun that reminds us to be thankful for the new day and to show compassion to all other sentient beings through our Buddhist Practice and cultivation.
The service concludes with chanting the Transfer of Merits and chanting the Refuge verses,
I take refuge in the Buddha
Wishing that all sentient beings
Understand the Dharma
And make the supreme vow
I take refuge in the Dharma
Wishing that all sentient beings
Study the sutras diligently
Obtain an ocean of wisdom
I take refuge in the Sangha
Wishing that all sentient beings
Lead the masses in harmony
Without obstructions
All are welcome to join in and there is always someone to guide a visitor.
