Support Constructing Chung Tian Temple & Read Diamond Sutra

As part of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist monastic order, Chung Tian Temple is dedicated to uphold the Founding Master Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s vision in propagating the teachings of the Buddha, and the Four Principles, “Propagating the Dharma through cultural activities, fostering talents through education, benefiting the society through charity, and purifying human minds through collective cultivation”, to promote Humanistic Buddhism.

With the blessing of the Triple Gems (the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha) and support from all devotees and patrons, we are initiating our 2nd Stage construction project to build or upgrade our Chung Tian Lodge, Meditation Hall, Dining Hall, Conference Hall and classrooms. With improved facilities and functionalities, we will be able to promote education and benefit all people.

To welcome more people to contribute to our construction project, we are launching a campaign called “Reading the Diamond Sutra and spreading merit to others”. Reading and transcribing the text of Diamond Sutra are said to help grow wisdom and reduce mental afflictions. We sincerely invite you to cultivate your uppermost Bodhi heart and to read or recite the Diamond Sutra. With merits from reading the Diamond Sutra, we pray for happiness for individuals, families and the society, for a smooth progress of our construction project, for peace and joy in every nation, and for all to have their wishes fulfilled.

Methods for reading or reciting the Diamond Sutra

Methods for reading or reciting the Diamond Sutra:

A quiet room or place is preferred. You need to relax your mind and fill your heart with gratitude. Start with reading three times, “Nan Mo Ben Shi Shi Jia Mo Ni Fo”, followed by the “Sutra Opening Verse”, which has four sentences,
“The unsurpassed, profound and wonderful Dharma,
Is difficult to encounter in hundreds of millions of eons.
I now see and hear it, receive and uphold it,
And I vow to fathom the Tathagata’s true meaning.”

Next we start with the full title and then progress to the main text. When finish reading the entire sutra, we need to conclude with the “Verse of Transference” to spread merit to all beings living in the ten Dharma Realms. The verses are:
“May palms in every world be joined in kindness, compassion, joy and generosity.
May all beings find security in friendship, peace and loving care.
May calm and mindful practice give rise to deep patience and equanimity.
May we have spacious hearts and humble thoughts of gratitude.”
